Joe Kent Hopkins
(January 17, 1936 - July 31, 2013)
Joe Kent Hopkins, age 77, passed away at mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong resident of Cassville, Missouri and a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
Joe, the son of Gail and Nola (Stockton) Hopkins was born January 17, 1936, in Cassville. On September 29, 1956, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Elaine Wade, who survives. They have two children, Teri Jo Shackles and her husband, Doug of Aurora, Missouri and Russell Delane Hopkins and his wife, Renee of Cassville, Missouri. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashtyn Paige Clinkenbeard, Emily Jo Clinkenbeard, Delane Allen Hopkins, Cheyenne Renee Hopkins and Logan Mark Shackles.
He is also survived by his three sisters, Sharon McKesson of Elkhart, Indiana, Mary Dunfee of Cassville, Missouri and Gaylene Ingram and her husband, John of Salem, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Benny Glen Hopkins.
Joe graduated from Cassville High School in 1954. He was a specialist 4 in the United States Army as a mechanized artillery driver. After the service he became a truck driver and soon purchased his own truck. In 1970, he became an owner-operator for Acoma Foods. He then became an owner-operator for Tyson Foods, where he retired after twenty-seven years of service. For the next eight years he and Evelyn drove independently and with their son, Russell for another five years.
His grandchildren became the center of his world. He loved tending his garden, playing with his grandkids and working in his shop. His other pride and joy were his two little dogs, Maggie and Lilly.
Joe will forever be remembered for his stories from the years on the road, his kind heart and his pride and love for his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 4, 2013, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Pastor John Duncan will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be in Corinth Cemetery, Cassville, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
