Harold A. Palmer Harold A. Palmer

U.S. Veteran Harold A. Palmer, age 93, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013, in his home.

He was born April 28, 1920, in Sterling, Colorado, the son of Amos C. and Ethel R. (Flint) Palmer. On May 24, 1941, he was united in marriage to Dema E. Zwirn, who preceded him in death on July 4, 1991. To this union five children were born. On May 20, 1995, he married Ruth J. (Bruce) Andrews, who preceded him in death on February 2, 2010. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two daughters, three brothers and five sisters.

Surviving are his children, Harry A. Palmer of Eagle Rock, Missouri; Linda Ball and her husband, Denny of Eagle Rock, Missouri and Robin Kroll of Rock Hill, South Carolina; three step-children, Millard Andrews and his wife, Kathy of Cassville, Missouri, Michael Andrews of St. Charles, Missouri and Sharon Doble and her husband, Jonathan of Rogers, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; fifteen step-grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; seventeen step-great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Harold received his education in Colorado and Kansas City, Missouri. During World War II he entered the United States Army, serving from May 25, 1942, until October 26, 1946. The first two years he served in the Pacific Theater on the Aleutian Islands in the anti-aircraft coast artillery. The next two years he served in England, Germany and France as a combat engineer. For several years he farmed in Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming, built grain elevators and managed service stations. He then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked at Hallmark Cards for fifteen years in building maintenance. In 1982, he retired and moved to the Eagle Rock area. In 1991, he resided in Butterfield for a short time before moving to Cassville to make his home. He was active in the Cassville Senior Center, where he delivered meals for twelve and a half years and for two and a half years did maintenance for them. He was a member of Butterfield Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 17, 2013, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Dave Eaton, Sr. will conduct the services. Graveside services with military honors will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday in Mount Moriah & Freeman Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
